Sunny Days are Here Again

We put all our indoor projects on hold to focus on the sun porch this summer.  Ideally, we should have had this completed earlier in the season, but we are  purposely taking our DIY projects slowly.  I neglected to take a before picture, but just envision a sad little room with dingy carpet (concrete underneath) and […]

sANDY - I love how you put it all together! It’s so cozy!

September 22, 2012 - 11:10 am

Keeley - Maddy, you have such good taste! I know we don’t have a before photo, but you’ve really chosen a home that has great potential. I’m hoping that our next home has the same potential… porches are rare these days (at least where I live). We’re going back and forth between getting a fixer upper for our next home or buying a house that’s already done (because prices are so great). We’ll see!

The Guilty Hyena - Entertaining family and friends, food, drink and family game nights during the warmer months is good for the soul, and your sun porch is ideal for that. Hope you had a blast this summer! :)

Something Old. Something New. Something DIY… + Cute!

The nesting bug has been coming in waves. We’ve gone weeks without lifting a finger, especially after adopting Parker, and then in the last two weeks we’ve made major progress on some of the items on our to-do list. I’m terrible at documenting each step from start to finish, but I wanted to share some […]

Donna - that bed is the cutest!! (but only second to Parker :) we bought ours from Costco and it’s not stylish at all. and that chair is TO DIE FOR. great decision on keeping it as is, but I’m sure having bought it for $50, it wouldn’t have hurt your pockets much to have it redone. awesome job!

August 17, 2012 - 3:14 am

Tiera - It’s looking great! I’m really loving the terrarium and the red chair :) And Parker is SUCH a cutie!

August 17, 2012 - 7:43 am

Amy - It’s looking awesome–those wire baskets under the table are too fabulous! And Parker–I’m sure he’s thankful we’re just blogging friends, as it keeps me from kissing his face! :)

August 17, 2012 - 10:10 am

mindy - Your living space has so many touches of you…it looks comfy but modern! Great score on the chair, too.

August 17, 2012 - 10:58 am

Tiffany B. - Looks great, it all works so well together. I just love parker and his bed. I always see those beds at home goods but I don’t think our dog would use it since he is a lap dog.

August 17, 2012 - 11:33 am

Life with Kaishon - I love it so much Maddy! Outstanding. Light, bright and fabulous.
Just like y.o.u.

Nadette@Eat, Read, Rant! - Wow, your LR looks great! I looooove the puppy bed, score on it matching the rug. Look at you nesting away, and ever so cute! Maybe I’ll get there in ten years :)

September 12, 2012 - 7:13 pm

Keeley @ My Life on a Plate - Parker’s bed is my favorite part! I know he’s a lot of work, but he’s adorable!

September 26, 2012 - 1:51 pm

The Guilty Hyena - It’s been… so long! I’m glad to find some good downtime to catch up on your blog, I’ve been meaning to do this for many a moon’s ago. Congrats on becoming a proud DIY-er of a DELIGHTFUL finished living room. How perfect is Parkers bed, just the ideal doggie bed for your living room.

Where the Wild Things Grow

As the warm weather approaches, we find ourselves trying to move our home improvement projects outdoors to get  things ready for summer cookouts, cocktails and company.  And since the weather was absolutely magnificent this weekend, we decided to start by cleaning our the flower beds and getting rid of the weeds that were running rampant.  […]

Tiera - Yay! I am definitely NOT one for gardening, but my grandma and my bossʻ wife both love it. Maybe Iʻll pick up some tips from them one of these days :) And that flower on the right is so cool looking! Do you know what it is?

April 17, 2012 - 6:12 am

Elly - I’m not especially good at gardening either, but I *do* find it super satisfying to get my hands dirty, and to be able to point at a patch of ground and say ‘I made that patch awesome’ :)

April 17, 2012 - 7:16 am

Life with Kaishon - What a pretty plant Maddy! I am so excited for you!

April 17, 2012 - 7:48 am

Amy - Oh, I love that flower!

It is a lot of work, isn’t it? I don’t really love the weed pulling part, but I love the buying new treasures-watching them grow-hanging out in the back yard part! :)

April 17, 2012 - 8:22 am

Cafe Fashionista - Ooh, I am in love with that plant – it is just beautiful! :)

April 17, 2012 - 9:50 am

Mindy - gardening is good for the soul, and as a bonus, you exercise muscles you didnt even know you had! your hard work will pay off with a beautiful outdoor space that is backdrop to many memories :)

April 17, 2012 - 10:22 am

Keeley @ My Life on a Plate - Ah, yardwork! Just make sure you wear some elbow-length leather gardening gloves and spray yourself with bug repellant (like Off) once the bugs come out. You may also want to sprinkle some Preen over your hard work since weeds have a way of returning within days. Preen will keep them away for a month or more. We use it all summer. It won’t kill your living plants.

I love a beautiful garden! I’m more into gardening vegetables and herbs than flowers and trees, but I appreciate them all.

April 17, 2012 - 10:22 am

Sarah - Dodeline Design - How exciting Maddy! I have the opposite of a green thumb and a bad track record of leaving dead plants in my wake lol. I decided though to get a little lavender plant and try to keep it alive…maybe starting small and with my favorite plant will be better ;-)

April 17, 2012 - 1:08 pm

Camila Faria - I love to work with plants, but I don’t have a garden (only a small herb garden in my porch). Looks like you have an amazing space over there!

April 17, 2012 - 2:27 pm

Camila Faria - Maddy, thanks for the compliments at my new blog. The english posts can be read here: http://naomemandeflores.com/en

Kristin - Want to come work on my back yard next? Ha! Love that closeup plant image!

April 17, 2012 - 3:45 pm

Elle sees - That’s aesome! My bosses recently had their yard redone, so I’ve been learning more about plants and trees

April 17, 2012 - 3:46 pm

yummychunklet - What a pretty plant!

April 17, 2012 - 4:38 pm

Sabine - Gardening is so much fun – as a relaxation, not so much as a task… which i love it, but am quite hopeless at it. I bet your garden will be beautiful!

April 18, 2012 - 11:31 am

Charisma Moran - What a pretty plant!! I kill more plants than I nuture but hopefully I can turn that around this year! =)

April 18, 2012 - 12:33 pm

Justine @ Urban Scarlet - very cool! i hate weeding… or any yard work for that matter – but i love the potential of having a great lookin’ yard with tons of entertaining for friends & fam! great timing w/ summer around the corner. GO YOU!

April 19, 2012 - 7:42 am

The Guilty Hyena - When you get your hands in the soil and create, it’s very satisfying. I remember planting a sunflower when I was 7 in our garden and it grew ever so tall, It felt something magical, I’d like to one day do some proper gardening with a herb garden too. Who needs to buy organic when you can grow the best at home.

Your summer cook-outs are gonna be a treat !!

April 27, 2012 - 2:52 pm

Nadette@Eat, Read, Rant! - summer cookouts, cocktails and company= count me in! Don’t you love how I invite myself to your house? But seriously, I am excited for this summer, hope to see you over drinks and sunshine before it’s over :)

April 30, 2012 - 8:55 am

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} - You’re welcomes anytime, Nadette! For real! Next time you’re in the area, you have to make a pitt stop :)
