What to Wear for Your Maternity Session

what-to-wear-maternity

Now that I’ve gone through a pregnancy of my own, I finally feel like I have some real world experience when it comes to dressing for a maternity session.  And if I’m being honest, it’s not as easy as I once made it sound (sorry guys!).   Every pregnancy is different and so is every mom-to-be, so personal style will definitely come into play when you make your outfit choices.  But from experience -both from working with previous clients and from my own pregnancy – these are a few recommendations that work for all body types and tastes.

what-to-wear-maternity1• Empire Waist: You know how they say to avoid empire waist tops and dresses because they make you look pregnant?  Well guess what? You are pregnant now so getting to rock this super comfortable and forgiving silhouette is one of the perks of your pregnancy! Not to mention, you don’t have to shop in the maternity section for this style – it can be found anywhere and it looks very flattering with your baby bump.

• Form Fitting: I’m one of those girls who avoids form fitting clothes like the plague! But oddly enough, when I was pregnant, I loved fitted styles the best! I didn’t have one of those high and perky baby bumps, so I often felt like my belly was just a wide giant blob if I wasn’t wearing form fitting tops and dresses that made my belly bump look more pronounced. Along with my Power Mama Spanx, this was my favorite pregnancy look by far!

what-to-wear-maternity4• Bare Belly: My fierce bare belly bearing mamas, your guys rock! I love your confidence and I wish I had a little bit more of it during my pregnancy.  Bare belly maternity photos are not for everyone, but they are totally a DO in my book!

what-to-wear-maternity7• Casual:  If you’re one of those girls that just feels more comfortable in a pair of jeans and a simple tee, good news! This combo is perfect for maternity pictures as well. After all, a comfortable mama is a happy mama…and a happy mama always looks great in pictures!

what-to-wear-maternity5• Dress it Up: I love formal wear so much for maternity sessions that I opted to wear a repurposed bridesmaid dress for my maternity photos (that’s me on the left!). I think pregnancy is such a beautiful time in a woman’s life and I love the mamas that decide to tap into their feminine side and opt for a dressier and more glamourous look for their photos.

what-to-wear-maternity8• Keep it Simple: At the end of the day, your best accessory during your pregnancy is your natural glow! So feel free to keep your outfit, makeup and jewelry simple and just let your beauty and joy shine from within.

Camila Faria - Great advice Maddy! And you look absolutely gorgeous with that dress (and the beautiful belly, of course). I have to agree with you: the pregnancy itself is the best accessory!

Beck - You were one of the most beautiful pregnant girls I have ever seen. You are always beautiful, but you were stunning when you were pregnant. #MostBeautifulGirlInTheWorld
