Something Old. Something New. Something DIY… + Cute!

The nesting bug has been coming in waves. We’ve gone weeks without lifting a finger, especially after adopting Parker, and then in the last two weeks we’ve made major progress on some of the items on our to-do list. I’m terrible at documenting each step from start to finish, but I wanted to share some of our recent additions/upgrades so that we can have a record of our progress. Let’s start with the living room, shall we? It’s the room in the house that looks the most “lived in” by now, which makes perfect sense since it’s the room we spend the most time in. It’s hard to imagine that it started off like this a few months ago! There’s lots more to do, but I’m happy with the transformation up to this point.

After finding the sofa, we started the hunt for an arm chair. Who knew one could cost hundreds of dollars?! Luckily, my sister is a thrifting queen and found this beauty at one of her local consignment shops for a mere $50. It was a leap of faith since I didn’t get to see it in person before it was purchased, but I’m glad it worked out. I figured I’d have to reupholster it, but after a good cleaning, I decided to keep it just the way it is. The upholstery was in excellent condition and the rich hue gives our living room the extra pop of color it needed.

Since succulent terrariums are all the rage right now, I knew I wanted to bring the fun trend to our space.I’ve seen a few DIY tutorials floating around Pinterest and I decided to give it a try for myself. My first attempt was a total FAIL – my plants died in a week’s time. But so far, so good on this second trial. Lots of sun light and a spritz of water every few days. I put them in a nice glass bowl to use as a coffee table centerpiece.

And speaking of coffee tables, I don’t think you were ever formally introduced to ours! When I spotted it on my online shopping travels, it was love at first sight! It is definitely one of the pricier items in the room, but so worth the cost! I just know we’re going to love it for many years! We also purchased two wire baskets for under the table to store magazines, catalogs and other reading material.

Last, but not least, my favorite living room addition: Parker’s Bed! When I found this doggie bed at the Home Goods, I couldn’t contain my excitement! Not only does Parker LOVE his nook, the wrought iron frame and black & white striped bedding matches our decor perfectly! S.C.O.R.E.!!!  So there you have it – our living room….for now!

that bed is the cutest!! (but only second to Parker :) we bought ours from Costco and it’s not stylish at all. and that chair is TO DIE FOR. great decision on keeping it as is, but I’m sure having bought it for $50, it wouldn’t have hurt your pockets much to have it redone. awesome job!

It’s looking awesome–those wire baskets under the table are too fabulous! And Parker–I’m sure he’s thankful we’re just blogging friends, as it keeps me from kissing his face! :)

Your living space has so many touches of you…it looks comfy but modern! Great score on the chair, too.

Looks great, it all works so well together. I just love parker and his bed. I always see those beds at home goods but I don’t think our dog would use it since he is a lap dog.

It’s been… so long! I’m glad to find some good downtime to catch up on your blog, I’ve been meaning to do this for many a moon’s ago. Congrats on becoming a proud DIY-er of a DELIGHTFUL finished living room. How perfect is Parkers bed, just the ideal doggie bed for your living room.
