The Hallway: A Little Progress

Since our house is a center hall colonial (the hallway/staircase is the first thing you see when you walk through the front door), it was important that this be one of the first projects we tackle. It seemed like a fairly simple one, but boy were we wrong! And as you can tell by the missing stair railing, we’re still not done! The first thing we did when we received the keys to house was to have the hardwood floors refinished – it made a major difference! Since then we’ve painted the walls twice (the first shade of grey looked baby blue), the stair risers, ceiling, trims and doors. We also added shoe moulding to the floors and cove mouldings to the stairs. There’s still more to be done, but the transformation so far has been pretty remarkable.  It’s been a lot of hard work, but it’s finally starting to pay off.

* I relied heavily on my camera phone to capture some images during the first few weeks since moving was a total blur.  But going forward, I promise to do a better job of documenting projects for my updates and side by side comparisons.
