February 2012

We had already purchased new knobs before realizing they did not fit properly in our existing doors. We were faced with the decision to either buy new doors with standard openings or salvage the existing knobs and hinges (that were covered in paint). We chose the latter. Luckily, this project was a super simple one! A few hours in the slow cooker with water and a bit of laundry detergent and the paint and grime easily scrubbed off (though I wouldn’t recommend using the same ceramic pot for cooking meals again). We still plan on spray painting them for an even finish, but by salvaging our existing hardware, we managed to save over $300!   Money that we can spend on something a little more exciting than knobs and hinges, don’t you think?

The last time I met up with this fabulous group of women was exactly a year ago.  Since another blogger meetup was long overdue, we decided to hit the road to the city of brotherly sisterly love: Philadelphia! Things have changed a lot since  we last saw each other: Keeley is now Dr. Keeley Powell and  expecting her first child.  Latoya is mommy to beautiful baby girl Mariah and pregnant with her second daughter. Nadette has opened up  Browned Butter Sweets (a brownie shop!) on Etsy and is planning her move to Spain. Chavonne is loving her new job teaching high schoolers and spending time with her family.  As for me…well you already knows what’s up with me (if not, then check out my last post)! But one thing’s for sure: when we get together, good times and delicious foods are plenty!

I’ve been told that things are never officially “done” when it comes to home improvements.  But one thing’s for sure, a fresh coat of paint does makes a difference and it’s one of the simplest ways to change up a room.  Unfortunately painting hasn’t been that simple for us. The paint is cracked in certain areas of the house, so before we start painting in those place, we  must chip the old paint off the walls to ensure a smooth surface. With lots of patience and a few helping hands, we managed to finish one wall in our office over a three day span.  Right now it doesn’t look like much, but I know it will be well worth it in the end.  So if you’re looking for me this weekend, I’ll be covered in paint chips and dust until this project is finally complete. Hope you enjoy yours!
