On The Move

Categories Getting Personal

After two years of living in our apartment, it’s time to move again!  Home buying was already on our radar, but we wanted to take our time with the search and ease our way into the whole process.  But unsurprisingly, life had different plans.  Our landlord requested that we return the apartment with only 45 days notice.  So not wanting to commit to another rental lease, we decided to make finding a home to purchase a priority. The last few weeks of summer were spent diligently searching for houses that were affordable, in desirable neighborhoods and with enough space for expanding our family down the road.  It’s been a wild rollercoaster ride (who knew that this would be such an emotional process),  but I’m happy to report that we have finally found our home! It’s going to take a few weeks of paperwork and sweating bullets to make it officially ours, but I’m so happy with our final decision. When I walked into the house the first (…second and third…) time, it instantly felt like home – a reaction that I did not get with any of the other 20+ places we visited.  The neighborhood meets all of our criterias and with a little TLC and elbow grease,  the house will become everything we envisioned too! I had mixed feelings about whether or not I wanted to share this news yet (part of me doesn’t want to jinx it), but my excitement won and I just couldn’t wait to share! So if I become a little inconsistent with posting and commenting in the weeks to come, you’ll know exactly why : I’m buried in paperwork, packing boxes, creating inspiration boards on Pinterest, discovering new DIY blogs and watching unhealthy amounts  of HGTV in antincipation for the exciting adventure that awaits in just a few more weeks!

Oh. My. GOSH! Maddy! This is so stinking exciting. I could NOT be happier for you!
What did expanding family mean?
Did I miss something?
This made my day!

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} September 15, 2011 at 7:27 am

Sarah - Dodeline Design September 15, 2011 at 7:08 am

That is SO exciting Maddy! We aren’t quite to the home buying stage yet but I can’t wait until we are. It will be so much fun to make it your own!

Amy September 15, 2011 at 7:34 am

YAAAY! what great news and how quickly you’ve actually found a place. it must be exciting making this kind of decision. can’t wait to see how it looks like :-)

Sabine September 15, 2011 at 9:08 am

Congratulations Maddy! I’m convinced you feel it if the house is right for you (we had the same with ‘ours’). The idea of buying a house still scares the s. out of me… So I’m all the more in awe your decision. All will be well :)

Congrats to you and Kleber! I remember the excitement we had during our first home hunt (a fixer-upper)…stressful, but also so unbelievably exciting! you guys are going to become DIY experts – after working on our first home, I have learned how to put in a garbage disposal, properly paint walls (primer is a must), tile a shower and change out cabinets and flooring.
so excited for you both!!

Meagan September 15, 2011 at 12:10 pm

Aww! Congratulations!! We just went through this process ourselves and are happily snuggled in our home. We looked for 6 months and saw this house 3 times before we moved in. The closing process was a nightmare for us – but I’m glad that you seem to understand what can happen. I have no advice about it either because what happened was totally out of our control. But I will say – best of luck to you and that I am SUPER happy for you guys!

The Guilty Hyena September 15, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Congratulations! The home buying process sure is fun, exciting, and stressful. Our process was so great because we ended up with an amazing realtor who really these naive, newbies’ best interest at heart. Enjoy the whole process and most of all, have fun decorating your very own space!! EEP! That’s the very best part!!!

Maddy {Mad Hearts Photography} September 15, 2011 at 2:49 pm

Our realtor is wonderful too! She’s a family friend, so it was a comfort knowing she had our best interest at heart. She did not rest until she found the perfect fit and she helped us get a great deal on it too! We would have almost overlooked this house too had it not been for her :)

Michaela September 15, 2011 at 9:11 pm

Oh how exciting!!! I can’t wait to see everything and what you do to renovate! I love all your pinned ideas too!

Buckeroomama September 15, 2011 at 9:41 pm

How exciting, Maddy! Congratulations on finding the right house. We were in a similar situation as yours when we got our place. Our then landlord wanted to increase our rent and we were looking around for another rental place, but chanced upon this new development and after some calculation, we’d decided to buy instead of continuing to rent. So happy we did! Sure, you’re paying mortgage, but it’s towards something you’ll eventually own vs. paying rent.

I’m sure you will have LOTS of fun decorating and working on the house. SO happy for you. =)

Irma September 15, 2011 at 10:48 pm

Maddy, I am so happy for you. Wishing you the best in your new home. I am sure that before long you will
have it to your liking and you and your husband will be able to sit back and say “we did it”. Best Wishes.
Love Irma

So excited for you! Rates are so low and this is such a great time to buy… we’d like to sell our place and move up, but that’s much more difficult.

I can’t wait to hear all about the process! Oh, and I need to check out this Pinterest thing that people keep talking about.

Chavonne September 16, 2011 at 1:27 pm

Oh congratulations!! How exciting!! Getting into a new home can definitely be nerve-wracking, but oh so rewarding when the papers are finally all signed and you get to move in. And setting up a brand new home is so much fun too! Can’t wait to see the photos of your new place and how you turn it from a house into your home.

Dina @ 4 Lettre Words September 20, 2011 at 7:08 am

Moving is a lot of work, but it’s also really exciting. We took our time unpacking with our recent move and it made a huge difference.

Congratulations!

Tamar September 20, 2011 at 3:38 pm

Good luck with this new adventure! And happy unpacking!

Cathy September 21, 2011 at 1:40 pm

Congrats! And good luck! Packing and unpacking is the hardest part. And there’s no rush to get everything finished right away. We moved into our house Memorial Day weekend and have only painted two rooms and got a little furniture for one.

Stephanie September 21, 2011 at 5:27 pm

Congrats on finding a new home Maddy! It must be so exciting to finally own your own space – I always feel like the most fun part of living in a house is the decorating parts. I can’t wait to see some before and after pictures that depict your lovely new abode. I always turn to your blog for all the great photography clips, so I’m definitely looking forward to all of you DIY ideas and home decor inspiration!

Eternally yours,
Stephanie
